GAA: History is made as Derry school wins MacRory Cup for the first time

MacRory Cup

St Mary's, Magherafelt won the MacRory Cup for the first time ever as they beat St Colman's, Newry 0-19 to 0-13 in the final at the Athletic Grounds in Armagh.

St Mary's held a 0-8 to 0-6 advantage at half-time and extended their advantage to five points after the resumption

But the Newry side, champions on 19 previous occasions, battled their way back into the game.

Kevin Small and Declan Cassidy were among the heroes for Mary's while goalkeeper Odhran Lynch made a string of super saves. St. Colman's felt they should have been given penalty on 55 minutes but this was to be St. Mary's day and they scored the last four points before the final whistle was greeted with scenes of jubilation. See this week's Co. Derry Post for full coverage.
