IN PICTURES: Principal hails "vibrant" atmosphere at Loreto College Coleraine Open Day

Future students explore a wide range of academic and extra-curricular opportunities

Loreto College Coleraine was bursting with activity on Saturday, January 10, as the school welcomed hundreds of prospective pupils and their parents for its annual Open Day.

The event provided Primary 6 and 7 pupils with a vibrant snapshot of life at the Voluntary Grammar School, offering families the chance to tour the facilities, meet the teaching staff, and experience the school’s unique ethos firsthand.

In his opening address, Principal Mr. Stephen Gallagher welcomed visiting families and highlighted the school’s recent highly successful ETI inspection, as well as the exceptional academic achievements of last year’s GCSE and A Level cohorts.

Visitors were then treated to a showcase of talent, including performances by the junior choir, the traditional Irish group, and various singing ensembles. Interactive learning was central to the day; visitors tried their luck at Maths quizzes, conducted experiments in the Science labs, and enjoyed culinary delights prepared in the Home Economics department before relaxing with refreshments in Café Lorette.

Tours of the school were led by student guides who answered questions and shared their personal experiences of the ‘Loreto Community.’ With all academic departments and extra-curricular activities represented, the event successfully strengthened the College’s links with the local area.

Reflecting on the success of the day, Mr. Gallagher commented: "It was wonderful to welcome so many people to the College. We were incredibly impressed by the enthusiasm of the visiting pupils. Whether they were conducting tests in the Chemistry labs, trying their hand at creative writing, or testing their skills in the Sports Hall, their eagerness to get involved was truly inspiring."

Parents and guardians interested in further information regarding the school’s admission criteria are encouraged to visit the official website loretocollege.org.uk
