Derry Court
A man has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court charged with disorderly behavior on the day of his grandfather's funeral as well as a number of driving offences.
Toby Loughlin (20) of Winchester Park in Derry was charged with, on June 24, disorderly behavior after driving to the site where his family were preparing to leave for his grandfather's funeral.
He was said to have gotten out of the car and, when police arrived, he shouted abuse at them. He was arrested for disorderly behavior as the offences occured in a residential area.
Upon inspection, police found the vehicle he had been driving to have two bald front tyres and different types of tyre on the front and back, leading to charges of driving a vehicle in dangerous condition.
When in custody, he gave a negative breath test but refused to provide blood or urine samples when asked.
Loughlin was also charged with, on April 14, driving while unfit when police saw him driving and signalled for him to stop, which he initially refused to do.
When he did eventually stop the car, police noticed him to be speaking very slowly and noted that he appeared to be drowsy.
A blood test showed traces of cannabis and cocaine.
Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that Loughlin comes from a 'very good family', adding that his problems come from 'mental health and addiction issues' and that he has 'expressed some remorse' for what has happened.
He was given a three year disqualification from driving, 150 hours of community service and ordered to pay fines totalling £975.
