The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Ruairí McHugh hosted a reception this week for the North West Regional College (NWRC) following its selection as a recipient of the 2025 Queen Elizabeth Prize for Education.
The reception was held in recognition of the North West Regional College’s exceptional contribution to the regional economy and its innovative partnerships with local businesses and for the work they do in in bridging the gap between academia and industry by ensuring students are equipped with the high-level skills necessary to drive local growth.
The reception, which was held in the Guildhall and brought together college leadership, local business partners, and community stakeholders.
Mayor Cllr McHugh said he was delighted to host the reception. He said: “I am delighted to take this opportunity to acknowledge the North West Regional College and their commitment to excellence. NWRC is more than just an educational institution, it is a vital engine for our local economy. By fostering such deep, impactful relationships with our business community, they are creating a future of prosperity and opportunity for the entire North West."
