Gerry Beattie has been named as new Vice Principal at St. Joseph’s Boys School.
A new Vice Principal has been appointed at St. Joseph’s Boys School in the Creggan.
Gerry Beattie has 29 years’ experience of working at the Westway school and has been a leader in a number of senior roles throughout his time at the school including being an integral part of the senior management team at the school for the past 22 years.
A very proud Galliagh man, Gerry also has strong family connection to Rosemount/Donegal Street and his uncle was part of the first teaching group at the school in 1960.
His wife Anne also worked at St Joseph’s for 13 years while daughter Abigail has recently been part of the cast of St Joseph’s School Show.
Speaking after last week’s appointment, the new VP said: ‘I’m enormously proud to be trusted with such a massive responsibility at this fabulous school. The staff and students here will get someone who will work tirelessly for them.

Principal Mrs. Ciara Deane wished Mr. Beattie all the best in his new post and said she was delighted to get him onboard.
‘Mr. Beattie’s wide-ranging knowledge and expertise will play a pivotal role in ensuring St. Joseph’s will continue to be a great place to learn. I am indeed delighted to welcome Gerry as Vice Principal, alongside Mrs. Fiona Harrigan-Stewart.
St. Joseph’s provides a broad curriculum that includes Key Stages 3–5, focusing on academic, technical, and personal development with a Catholic ethos. Our core subjects include English, Mathematics, Science, and Religious Education, alongside vocational, arts, and technology options designed to prepare students for further education or employment. We will continue to build on this going forward and Mr. Beattie will play a pivotal role.’
Mr. Beattie will officially take up his position in April.
