The iconic Femme Sesh is set to return to the stage in Derry this March, bringing a powerhouse celebration of music and activism to the heart of the city for International Women’s Day.

Hosted by the incomparable Abby Oliveira, the event will take place in Sandinos Main Room on Saturday, March 7. This year’s showcase remains true to its Derry and Donegal roots, featuring a diverse bill of local legends including The Henry Girls, TRAMP, The Bluebelle Choir and Jeanette Hutton.

This year’s Femme Sesh carries a profound theme, dedicated to the Raytheon 9 women. On January 12 2009, nine local women - Roisin Barton, Roisin Bryce, Helen Deery, Betty Doherty, Goretti Horgan, Diana King, Jackie McKenna, Sharon Meenan and Julia Tor Rojo - occupied the Raytheon facility in Springtown.

Their direct action was a response to the Israeli bombing of a school in Gaza and proved to be the "last straw" for the arms giant. Less than a month after their occupation, Raytheon announced they were leaving Derry, citing the relentless campaign by local activists.

"Femme Sesh is back, and the energy this year is special," said the organisers. "It promises to be a night to remember, full of love and memories. We are celebrating the bravery of the women who stood up for justice in our city while showcasing the incredible musical talent that Derry and Donegal continue to produce."
