Séamus Kearney brings ‘No Greater Love’ to Derry’s Rath Mór Centre

Séamus Kearney brings ‘No Greater Love’ to Derry’s Rath Mór Centre

Writer and former IRA staff officer Séamus Kearney will take the stage at Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich in Derry this Saturday (January 31) at 6.00pm to share a profound narrative of brotherhood and resilience.

Hosted by the 1916 Societies, the event offers a hard-hitting, firsthand account of Kearney’s relentless pursuit of the truth behind the execution of his brother, Michael Kearney, and the treacherous state-sponsored network surrounding the notorious double agent known as ‘Stakeknife’.

Kearney will provide unique insights into the depths of state-sponsored murder and corruption, exposing the extreme measures the British state and its agents allegedly took to infiltrate and disrupt the IRA, often turning a blind eye to torture and murder to protect key informants.

His narrative is one of profound determination, as he navigates through layers of institutional secrecy to confront the murky realities of the counter-insurgency war and the personal toll of betrayal.

The presentation also delves into Kearney’s life of activism as chronicled in his acclaimed book, 'No Greater Love'. He will recount his journey from a young volunteer to an IRA staff officer, providing a harrowing firsthand perspective on the blanket protest in the H-Blocks and the epic struggle of the 1981 Hunger Strike. This story serves as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of systemic oppression and is essential for anyone seeking to understand this pivotal era of Irish history.

Following the talk, Séamus will host an open Q&A session to discuss the broader themes of the war and the enduring pursuit of justice. Signed copies of 'No Greater Love' will be available for purchase throughout the evening.

This event in the Rath Mor Centre is free and no ticket is required. However, entry is based on a first-come, first-served basis. Given the large audience expected from previous events, early arrival is highly recommended.
