Over 100 people turned up for the official opening of the new club, the first in the area in 20 years. Club spokesperson Alex Duffy said they were “overwhelmed” by the support from the community. He added: “We knew we had lots of interest and people were very keen and glad to see boxing back within the community after 20 odd years but we did not expect upwards of 100 people with the majority of that signing up on the night to start training. “Then again, that is what makes Strathfoyle unique, we really are a close nit community.” Strathfoyle ABC is a community initiative developed by Strathfoyle Community Association and driven by three local fathers Jimmy Duffy, Damien McKinney and Martin Montgomery taking on the roles of coaching. Alex added: “Strathfoyle ABC will be competing like any other club and we will help our members to reach their full potential as athletes. We will cater from ages 8 to adult and everyone is welcome.” Club training nights are: Monday & Thusday: Juniors: 8 years to 10 - 7.00-8.00pm (£1) Seniors: 11 years and over – 8.00-9.30pm (£2)
