Registration forms are now available for entrants to Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Waterside Half Marathon Family Fun Run on Sunday 3rd September. The junior race, which is just over a mile, will be open to everyone and runs concurrently with the main half marathon event. Following the departure of the main race, the family fun run will depart from the clock tower at Ebrington Square at 10.15am, 15 minutes after the main WHM runners take off. Ryan Porter, Sports Development at Derry City and Strabane District Council said: “The main race will depart from the Clock Tower at Ebrington at 10.00am, followed by the family fun run at 10.15am. “The route will take off from the Ebrington site, around the clock tower building and then proceed to pass beneath the Peace Bridge, along the riverside greenway. through to St. Columb’s Park race track which holds the finish line. This is usually very popular with children who come with their parents and get involved.” The run is designed to cater for runners of all levels and ages and aims to get more children involved in the event. Children under 9 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. All registered participants of the WHM Family Fun Run will receive a race medal and goodie bag at the end of the race. Registrations forms are available online or at the Foyle Arena. Registrations close at 6.00pm on Friday 1st September online, ‘last minute’ hard copies can be delivered to the Foyle Arena before4.00pm on Saturday 2nd September. Further details on both the Waterside Half Marathon and Family Fun Run are available at http://www.derrystrabane.com/Subsites/Half-Marathon/About.
