A man who was disorderly on St Stephen's Day morning and assaulted police has been jailed at Derry Magistrates' Court today.
Sean Connell (28) of no fixed abode admitted a series of offences including assaults on police, criminal damage and disorderly behaviour that occurred on December 26 last year.
The court was told police received a report of anti social activity at an address where Connell was said to be banging on the door and window.
Eventually Connell broke a window in the door and when police arrived he was found with his hands covered in blood.
When police attempted to arrest Connell he became aggressive and was shouting 'up the hoods'.
He then indicated he was going to bite an officer and tried to do so as well as trying to scratch an officer with his nails.
He kicked officers as well and continued to be aggressive after being taken to Altnagelvin Hospital.
Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said that there was really only one outcome from this case.
He said Connell wished to apologise for his actions and now wanted to move on with his life.
Connell was sentenced to five months in custody.
