Landmark milestone for Galliagh Women’s Group marked with Derry reception

The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Cllr Ruairi McHugh, hosted a special reception to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Galliagh Women’s Group.

During the event, the Mayor presented a civic gift to Anne McKeever, chair, and Marie Gillespie, treasurer, in recognition of the group’s longstanding contribution to the community. The reception was attended by group members and invited guests, including MLA Ciara Ferguson and Councillor Brian Tierney.

The Mayor also met with key representatives of the organisation, including Secretary Winnie O’Brien and Vice-Chair Teresa Holmes, marking the milestone with a tribute to the group’s dedication and impact over the past 35 years

Thanking the group for their dedication, Mayor McHugh said, “It was a privilege to host Galliagh Women’s Group as they celebrate 35 years of outstanding service to the community. Their dedication, resilience and commitment to supporting and empowering local women has made a lasting difference in Galliagh and beyond.
