Woman (40) who repeatedly punched victim jailed for Derry car park assault

A woman has been jailed at Derry Magistrate's Court for assault and making threats to kill.

Emma McDaid (40) of no fixed abode was charged with, on May 4 last year, assaulting a woman in a car park, knocking her to the ground and repeatedly punching her in the head until the woman's friends tried to step in.

She was also charged with making threats to kill her on the same date and assaulting her on April 1 last year.

Defence Barrister Sean Doherty said that McDaid struggled with her mental health and had been on remand since May last year.

She was sentenced to nine months in custody and a non-molestation order was put in place for three years.
