Derry judge hits out at court delays

Derry Magistrate's Court

A man who made threats to kill against a former friend during a 'loss of temper in a one off situation' has been placed on probation at Derry Magistrate's Court today.

Andrew Daniel Redden (26) of Ardnamoyle Park in Derry admitted three charges of threatening to damage property on June 18 2024, threats to kill and threatening communications on the same date.

The court was told that there was a 'disagreement' between the defendant and the injured party over an item she was selling.

The defendant later sent messages via Snapchat and other social media outlets.

Defence counsel Sinead Rogan said her client had no ongoing issues with drugs or alcohol.

She said that he had told probation that he accepted that while he had no intention of carrying out his threats the woman would have been concerned.

Redden was sentenced to 12 months probation.
