Defence barrister tells court that 22-year-old was late home due to traffic while facing a potential medical emergency.

A woman has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court following a breach of her bail conditions that were put in place last month.

Courtney Temple (22) of Spencer Road in Derry had been released on conditions that included abiding by a curfew of eight o'clock and abstaining from alcohol.

Police attended her address after she was flagged on their system as being out after her curfew on June 15.

Upon arrival, Temple answered the door and police said they could smell intoxicating liquor. She refused to take a breath test and was subsequently arrested.

Police objected to bail as Temple currently has a suspended sentence in place following a charge of assault and has got twenty-eight previous breaches.

Defence Barrister Sinead Rogan said that Temple has previous issues with alcohol but has been 'so far compliant' with her conditions and was 'trying to get herself on track'.

She told the court that Temple is in 'very early stages of pregnancy' and 'very upset' as thought she was miscarrying.

She also said that Temple had got home just after eight o'clock as she had got a taxi and had been stuck in traffic.

Bail was granted and she will appear again on June 18.
