Defendant released on strict bail after allegedly threatening to kill a woman and her dog.

A man has been told that this is his 'final opportunity' as he was released on bail on a series of domestic offences.

Aaron Doherty (20) of Altcar Park in Derry appeared charged with making a threat to kill a female on June 10, assaulting the same female, attempted criminal damage and a charge of domestic abuse on the same date.

A police officer connected the accused to the charges and opposed bail.

The court heard that the alleged injured party told police that the defendant had told her the bail conditions had been removed allowing him to contact her.

She told police that she had returned an X-box to him and that they had 'an on off relationship' with the defendant.

She said on June 10 she had gone to retrieve some belongings and alleged Doherty had told her he would 'smash the phone on her face' and also threatened to kill her and her dog.

Bail was opposed due to the risk of reoffending.

Defence counsel Sinead Rogan said that the defendant would maintain that the incident occurred when they were 'play fighting' .

District Judge Suzanne Rice said that this was Doherty's last chance and she would release him on bail on condition he has no contact with the alleged injured party and he is not to enter Derry City Centre.

He will appear again on June 25.
