Synge & Byrne has announced the closure of its Foyleside Centre location.
Synge & Byrne, the artisan coffee brand known, has officially announced the closure of its Foyleside Centre location and all other cafés across Northern Ireland.
Founded in 2013 by brothers Damien and Adrian Garvey of Forkhill, the company has ceased trading in the region after 12 years of operation. The brand first expanded into Derry in 2014, becoming a staple of the local coffee scene within the Foyleside Shopping Centre.
In a statement released via social media, the founders cited 'challenging market conditions' as the reason for the difficult decision.
“We are so very sorry to announce that Synge & Byrne has ceased trading in Northern Ireland,” the company stated. “Challenging market conditions, rising costs, and a growing debt burden have left us with no other option.”
The closure marks the end of a significant chapter for the local hospitality sector. The founders expressed their profound gratitude to the people of Derry and the wider Northern Ireland community who supported the brand since its inception.

“We want to sincerely thank our amazing team, our customers, and communities for your unwavering loyalty and support over the last 12 years - we are deeply grateful to you all. Thank you for being part of the Synge & Byrne story.”
While the Northern Ireland branches have closed, the company confirmed that Synge & Byrne stores located in the Republic of Ireland are unaffected by this announcement and have no plans to close.
