'We had a great night and the Derry people are lovely and Feis Dhoire Cholmcille to me is just a wonderful feis' - Lilian O'Moore

Legendary Derry Irish dancing teacher Lilian O'Moore has thanked Feis Dhoire Cholmcille  - Derry Feis for the reception she received in recognition of her "immense contribution to Irish dancing and Derry Feis".

The "inimitable and irrepressable" Lilian will be 100 years old on May 23, 2026.

On Friday evening past, Derry Feis committee members proudly and warmly welcomed Lilian to the city's St Columb's Hall, home of the iconic arts event's senior Irish dancing competitions.

Lilian was greeted with rapturous applause and a standing ovation from the assembled Irish dancing community and friends when she entered the Main Hall of the beautiful building.

Thanking the Feis Committee, Lilian said: "I would like to thank all the Committee of Feis Dhoire Cholmcille for the wonderful night that they gave me. I will never forget it.

"It was a great tribute and especially thank you Ursula [Clifford, Feis chairperson] for the attention you gave me and sitting with me during all of the competitions. I am very, very grateful," she added.

"And the lovely friends who all came up to pay tribute to me - all my ex-pupils years back that I taught.

"We had a great night and the Derry people are lovely and Feis Dhoire Cholmcille to me is just a wonderful feis. An thanks again Ursula and Pat and the people around me that helped me. Thanks again, I appreciated it."
