IN PICTURES: Derry celebration marks silver jubilee for Waterside’s Na Piarsaigh Doire Trasna

Reception reflects on the club’s historic League and Junior Championship double as it enters its 26th year

Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Ruairí McHugh, has hosted a civic reception for players, officials and volunteers of Na Piarsaigh Doire Trasna GAA Club to celebrate the Waterside club’s 25th anniversary.

The club’s thriving underage set up were well represented at the event in the Guildhall’s Whitaker suite and they provided musical and dancing entertainment for those in attendance.
Mayor McHugh made a presentation to Club President Eddie Nash to mark the milestone and commended everyone involved in growing the club over the last 25 years.

“It was a genuine honour for me to spend the evening with members of CLG Doire Trasna and recognise the outstanding contribution the club has made to sport, community life and the promotion of gaelic games in the Waterside,” said Mayor McHugh.
“From humble beginnings the club now have a state of the art home on Corrody Road and enjoy huge participation numbers from under age right up to senior level where their League and Junior Championship double of 2017 was a highlight.

“The entertainment provided by the club’s underage members on the night shows that their activities stretch far beyond the gaelic pitch and it was clear to me that this is a thriving club, rooted in their community who I am certain will go from strength to strength in the years ahead.”
