Derry Magistrate's Court
A man has been given a suspended sentence at Derry Magistrate's Court today for assaulting and resisting police.
David Knight (48) of Melmore Gardens in Derry admitted threecharges relating to an incident on January 8 this year.
The court was told that a police mobile patrol came upon an altercation involving several males.
They detained Knight who began to resist and had to be taken to the ground and in the course of this he kicked one officer to the head.
Police had to use CS spray and Knight continued to shout and resist.

Defence counsel Sean Doherty said that 'thankfully' no 0ne had been injured in the incident.
He said his client had been assaulted by a group of men and when police tried to de-escalate the situation Knight became involved.
The barrister said the defendant had shown 'genuine remorse'.
District Judge Oonagh Mullan said that while it was not the most serious case the police had a difficult enough job without this sort of behaviour.
Knight was sentenced to four months custody suspended for 12 months.
