Derry's Rossville Group celebrates three decades at the 'heart of the community'

As part of Culture Night 2024, Eden Place Arts Centre will host a celebration of the creativity of The Rossville Group on their 30th year of inclusive community integration from their base at Pilots Row Centre.

The group will showcase their recent works, an electric mix of photographs, photograms and printing, in an exhibition entitled Three Decades at the 'Heart of the Community'.

This project worked with staff and clients to create artwork celebrating the 30th anniversary at the heart of the community.

Using diverse artistic techniques such as pinhole photography, printmaking and photograms, participants explored the rich visual culture distinctive to the Bogside location. This colourful artwork is now installed on the exterior of the building as a celebration of the joyful creativity taking place every day within the walls of Pilots Row.

Workshops introduced members to the process of pinhole photography and participants utilised these low tech ‘cameras’ to capture images around the Bogside area, focusing on iconic landmarks. These were developed in the analogue darkroom within Pilots Row.

They also created photograms to create abstract prints. An introduction to a simple printmaking process enabled individuals to create further colourful abstract prints.

These outputs are combined to create the final bespoke artwork and are presented in an exhibition in Eden Place Arts Centre in Pilot’s Row on Culture Night, Friday, 20th September from 6.00pm - 8.00pm.

The exhibition continues until Friday, 4th October, with viewing times from 10.00am - 7.00pm.
