Met Éireann predicts possible icy cold snap tonight for certain counties

Meteorologists are warning of impending wet and windy weather that is expected to sweep through the area throughout the morning and afternoon, before taking a chilly turn tonight, bringing with it a heightened risk of icy conditions.

This morning, according to Carlow Weather, residents in the North-West are experiencing a relatively mild start to the day, which will become windier with a yellow warning as the day progresses.

For tonight, Met Éireann are emphasising the likelihood of a temperature drop: "The last of the rain will clear southern areas early tonight, and the rest of the night will be dry for most with long clear spells, with just the odd shower possible in the north.

"Some isolated mist and fog patches will form, most likely in southern parts, with winds decreasing mostly light and variable, still fresh westerly for a time in the north."

It is said that "frost and ice [are] possible," and lowest temperatures will range between -2 to +4 degrees, coldest in Munster and south Leinster.
