There have been further sightings of a potentially dangerous jellyfish off the coast of the northwest.

A massive Lion's Mane jellyfish was spotted by Aodán Ó Cearbhaill as he was fishing in Donegal in the past week.

The jellyfish was also recently spotted at Carn Beach in Ardara, prompting Irish Water Safety to issue a warning for swimmers to be aware.

The Lion's Mane jellyfish has been spotted in several areas off Ireland's east coast. This particular creature can reach a diameter of 2m.

With 150 tentacles, the jellyfish can range from deep red to yellow.

The sting of the jellyfish is much stronger than other species typically found in Irish waters.

Lion's Mane jellyfish can cause anaphylactic reactions in people who are allergic.
