Man arrested following 'reckless' arson attack in Derry

Police launch witness appeal after a 24-year-old man is arrested and hospitalised following the Prehen Park fire.
A report was received at approximately 6.15pm on Thursday, November 5 that a vacant property had been set alight in the Prehen Park area of the city.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “Officers attended the scene, alongside colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service who extinguished the fire. The building was completely destroyed as a result of the blaze.
“A 24-year-old man arrested at the scene in connection with the incident, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
“He was then taken onward to hospital by colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.
“We are appealing for information and witnesses as our investigation continues into the circumstances of what happened as a result of this reckless act.”
They continued: “One line of enquiry we’re exploring is that three other suspects made off from the scene in the direction of Victoria Road. They are not believed to be injured, however.
“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have CCTV, dash-cam or other footage of the area or who noticed suspicious behaviour to contact us using our witness appeal form at https://reporting.psni.police.uk/appeals quoting 1337 of 05/11/26 or call 101.
