Court hears how a domestic dispute between housemates spilled outdoors

A woman has been given a suspended sentence at Derry Magistrate's Court today for disorderly behaviour and assaulting another woman in a street brawl.

Caitlin Callaghan (28) of Abercorn Road in Derry admitted the offences that occurred on October 29.

The court was told that police were alerted to two females fighting in Abercorn Road.

A check of CCTV showed the defendant was the aggressor and she had punched, kicked and thrown the other woman to the ground.

Defence solicitor Keith Kyle said that the two women shared accommodation and Callaghan felt she was 'not appreciated' and an argument ensued that spilled out into the street.

Callaghan was sentenced to one month in prison suspended for 12 months and a conditional discharge.
