GAA: Mickey Moran brings a Derry management team to his new role in Kilcoo

New Kilcoo manager Mickey Moran
New Kilcoo manager Mickey Moran will bring Derry men as part of this backroom team to the Down kingpins, as he takes over from outgoing boss Paul McIver. Moran, who won four Derry and three Ulster titles in his four year stint with the Slaughtneil, was appointed as the Magpies' boss on Wednesday on a three year term. "Mickey was unanimously ratified at a club committee meeting," read an official Kilcoo statement.  "The club are over the moon that the Glen Maghera man has agreed to become our manager." Kilcoo lead the Down SFC roll of honour with 16 titles but have yet to win the Ulster championship. They were beaten in the 2012 final by Crossmaglen and in 2016 by Slaughtneil under the management of Moran, who also knocked them out in 2017. Moran was linked with Killyclogher and his own club Glen, before hooking up with Kilcoo. Conleith Gilligan, who has recently retired from a successful club career with Ballinderry, will come on board as team trainer. Gilligan has been involved in coaching, most recently with Tyrone club Coalisland and was approached to take over from Jude Donnelly as manager of Portglenone. Ballinascreen man Paul Devlin will also be part of management team.  Devlin led 'Screen to a first ever Derry senior ladies championship earlier this season.
