Derry City FC has signed defender Rob Slevin from Galway United. The 27-year-old, who spent three seasons with Galway, is the team's second new addition in recent weeks, following the signing of midfielder Darragh Markey from Drogheda United.

The Cork native came to attention in the colours of UCC before joining Waterford in 2019.  He represented his hometown club Cork City for the pandemic impacted campaign of 2020, before moving to Finn Harps in 2022 where he began to emerge as one of the defensive talents in the League.

After making more than 30 appearances for Harps, he moved to Galway and appeared over 100 times for the Tribesmen.  Part of the side that captured the First Division title in 2023 earning a return to the Premier. He appeared 39 times last season for Galway across League and Cup.

Known primarily as a left-sided centre-half, Slevin can also operate at left back if required. The 6’2″ defender has appeared in all eight games between Galway and City since the Tribesmen returned to the Premier Division and caught the eye of City boss Tiernan Lynch who has added him to the ranks for the 2026 season.

Slevin expressed his delight at the move, saying: “I’m really happy to get it done. I know what Tiernan’s building here and I’m really happy to be a part of it and to get going.”

“I’ve been coming up here and playing probably 6 years now and it’s never an easy game, think I’ve only won a few times which isn’t great but it’s good now!”

“Really looking forward to getting started, I think its going to be a good challenge.”

“His [Tiernan’s] plans for the club perfectly aligned with how I see my career going so it was a no-brainer for me and can’t wait to get going.”

City boss Tiernan Lynch said: “This club’s all about honesty and hard work and it’s important we give the fans what they want. That hunger, that desire, that drive and heart on the sleeve, Rob gives us all of that.”
