Spate of accidents prompts new safety concerns about busy Derry road
Concern is growing over safety on one of the main roads into Derry following a number of recent accidents.
Sinn Féin Councillor Paul Fleming has called for an immediate review of the safety along a section of the Clooney Road dual carriageway from the Caw Roundabout to the Maydown Roundabout.
He raised his concerns after a number of accidents along this stretch of road over the past few weeks.
He said: "I have been contacted by concerned motorists and residents from Strathfoyle worried about safety along a section of the Clooney Road for both motorists and pedestrians.
"I am aware from the information I have received there have been at least six accidents along this stretch in the last few weeks.Thats a lot for such a small section of road.
"This is a very busy road with hundreds of vehicles using it daily, so on that basis I requested that DRD Road Service/Transport NI look at the situation, I have also raised my concerns from the PSNI.
"Transport NI have told me they are looking at the situation with a view to identifying collision remedial schemes. I hope that a solution came be fund that will prevent future accidents."
