Coleraine community ‘deeply shocked’ as police probe into death continues

The Coleraine community have been described as “deeply shocked” following the death of a 43-year-old man, as police investigate.

Wayne Reid was pronounced dead at an address in the Society Court area.

Police have said they believe he may have been involved in an altercation, sometime between Thursday January 8 and Saturday January 10 in the Society Court or Society Street areas of Coleraine.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

On Thursday police were also searching an apartment building in relation to the incident.

SDLP East Derry MLA Cara Hunter has said the Coleraine community are “deeply shocked by this murder in the heart of the town”.

“It has left many people struggling to come to terms with what has happened so close to their homes,” she said.

“My thoughts are with the family and friends of Wayne Reid as they begin to process their loss.

“I want to acknowledge the swift response from the police, which will offer some reassurance to the local community at a very difficult time.

“I would urge anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward and speak to the PSNI.”
