REVEALED: Conor McGregor crowned top-earning Irish athlete on Instagram

NEW research has found that the highest-earning Irish athlete on Instagram is MMA fighter and boxer, Conor McGregor. 

A new study has revealed Conor McGregor as the highest-earning Irish sportsperson on Instagram, charging up to €137.9K per sponsored post. 

The study analysed 10 Instagram accounts of active Irish athletes to find out who could earn the most. WWE wrestler Becky Lynch and professional golfer Rory McIlroy rank second and third highest earners, respectively. 

The study looked at the Instagram profiles of 29 notable Irish athletes to find out who could earn the most from a single sponsored post on the platform.  

35 years old from Dublin, McGregor has 47.2 million followers on his Instagram account, @thenotoriousmma. McGregor’s posts feature clips from his UFC career, photos with his family, or promotion of his alcohol brand, Forged Irish Stout.  

Earning up to €27.8k per sponsored post, WWE wrestler Becky Lynch ranks second. Lynch, whose real name is Rebecca Quin, boasts a total of 5.8 million followers on her Instagram handle @beckylynchwwe. On Instagram, she can be seen promoting her new book ‘The Man’, as well as sharing photos with her family.  

Professional golfer Rory McIlroy is placed third earning up to €15.9K per sponsored post, with his account boasting 2.8 million followers. This sporting star doesn’t post many photos of his personal life, as his Instagram is filled with photos of himself playing golf, attending championships, and posing with awards. 

Fourth place is taken by Caoimhin Kelleher, earning an average of up to €4.8K for each sponsored Instagram post. The footballer has amassed a following of 591,000 under his Instagram handle @caoimhinkelleher98.

Katie Taylor is also joint fourth place. She has accrued 593,000 followers and could also earn up to €4.8K per sponsored post.  

Rounding out the top five is professional football player, Katie McCabe, with who could earn of up to €3.3K per sponsored post. McCabe, who plays for the Women’s Super League team, Arsenal, has amassed 367,000 followers on the platform.
