A 60-year-old Derry man has gone on trial at Belfast Crown Court accused of the murder of a man in Derry city centre.

Kieran McLaughlin (pictured above at a previous court hearing), of Elaghmore Park, denies murdering 35-year-old Barry McCrory who was shot dead by a lone gunman in an upstairs flat on Shipquay Street on 10 October 2013.

Today’s court was told the victim was shot four times, twice in the head, by a gunman who shouted “drug dealing scum” at him while he carried out the killing.

The court heard prior to the shooting, the gunman was caught on CCTV forcing his way into the flat.

The court was told once inside, the gunman forced McGrory’s girlfriend into another room before shooting the father-of-one.

The trial will resume tomorrow.
