Man arrested after two police officers assaulted during callout in Derry

A man has been arrested after two police officers were assaulted in Derry.

Police said the officers were attending a report of a fight involving two men in the Sackville Street area at around 9.30pm on Friday when they sustained hand and arm injuries.

A police spokesperson said: “One of the men was reported to have behaved in an aggressive manner towards police, during which a bottle which he was holding smashed.

“Two officers sustained hand and arm injuries as a result.

“A male aged in his late teens was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assault on police and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and remains in police custody at this time.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting reference number 1839 of 17/04/26.
