Heartfelt tributes have been paid to a former Limavady publican who passed away on recently.. Frank Owens, owner of Frank Owen’s’ Bar, died at his Scroggy Road home on Friday. In February, he celebrated his 99th birthday surrounded by family and friends. A native of Sixmilecross in County Tyrone, the father-of-four was well known throughout Limavady and further afield. He was laid to rest yesterday (Monday) following Requiem Mass in Christ The King Church, Limavady. Tributes have flooded in since the announcement of his passing. Limavady Wolfhounds GAC took to their Facebook page to write: “It is with deep regret this morning that we hear of the passing of Frank Owens. “Frank was a lifelong Gael, a former Tyrone footballer, an upstanding member of the local community, club supporter and friend to many. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Owen's family at this difficult time. “May he rest in peace.” Noelle Devlin wrote: “So very sad to hear of Frank's passing. Always a congenial host. My sympathies extended to Gary, Damien and family.” Others paid tribute on Twitter. Naomi McIvor wrote: “This won’t mean a lot to most of you, but the legend that is Mr Frank Owens has passed away. I shall be raising a glass in his honour. RIP.” MJM Picture Framing tweeted: “Limavady bar owner Frank Owens passed away today. Best Guinness in Northern Ireland.” Ciaran Toner added: “RIP Frank Owens. A gentleman.”
