A student from North West Regional College who is fast becoming a rising star in the music industry is set to release a three track EP of her own music early next year. Roisin Donald (17),from Derry, known in the music world as ROE, has recently been critiqued in the music pages of the Irish Times and had her song “Fake Your Death” featured as track of the day on BBC Radio Ulster’s “Across the Line” programme. And now she wants to go even further. Ahead of her February release, ROE (pictured), who has been receiving rave reviews playing across the North West, is now adding three extra elements to her live performance using drum pads, a Mac and Loop Pedals. “I’ve decided that music is what I want to do for my career,” explained ROE, who is studying Music Performance Level 3 at the North West Regional College (NWRC). “Next year I’m coming back to college to study for my HND or HNC. “I just want to get heard because I love music and performing live. “I am currently working on a new set with drum pads, a MAC and loop pedals on stage. I want to be able to play as much of the tracks live as I can. “I don’t want to just be another person with a guitar, I want people to have the whole experience when they see me on stage.” ROE’s track ”Fake Your Death” has been receiving attention since it was first featured on Stephen McCauley’s show on BBC Radio Foyle. “Fake Your Death is about relationships,” explained ROE, “and about losing touch with people. It is also about my guitar and me. I’ve recently moved on from the acoustic guitar to the electric guitar and that has really influenced the way my songs sound.” ROE’s EP has been produced under the label Fictive Kin, by Liam Craig, a Music lecturer at North West Regional College, who also produced ROE’s first EP, self- titled ROE. “The tracks would not have been the same without the help and support from Liam,” said Roe. “I love being able to write music and people being able to hear what you have to say through your songs. I have never felt so passionate about doing something. “It has been great being at college because I love learning about new stuff and all the different ways to do things.” The Irish Times recently described her as a talent on the rise adding that Fake Ur Death: “matches Donald’s poignant voice with some strong melodies and a neat guitar line to produce a minor key thriller.” ROE’s E.P. You Call it Art will be available for download from Spotify and ITunes in February next.
