New data reveals a fall in passenger numbers at City of Derry Airport despite an increase in flights

Passenger numbers fell at City of Derry Airport in May this year, it has been revealed. Figures released by the Civil Aviation Authority show that there was a fall of 41% in passenger numbers compared to May 2016. The number of passengers through the terminal has also fallen from the 2016 figure. In total, 13,852 passengers passed through the airport in May and 258,802 have used it so far this year. This is a 10% reduction on 2016. Meanwhile, there was a 13% increase in flights operated in City of Derry Airport compared to May 2016. However, there has also been a 9% fall in the number of flights this year since 2016. The figures showed that passenger numbers also fell at Belfast City Airport, although there was a 19% increase in passengers going through Belfast International Airport.
