Case of 30-year-old Derry man charged with abducting child from care home and raping her being handled by Serious Crime Unit

A 30-year-old Derry man charged with abducting a child from a care home and raping her has appeared at the city’s Magistrates Court.

Christopher Harley, c/o Maghaberry prison, is charged with the abduction of a child from care on October 15, 2016.

He is further charged with the rape of the same child on October 14 and engaging in sexual activity with her on October 10, 2016.

The girl was said to have been 13-years-old when the alleged offences took place.

Derry Magistrates Court heard that the case is being handled by the Serious Crime Unit based in Belfast.

A Public Prosecution Service representative said there is a ‘large quantity of evidence still outstanding’.

The case was taken two weeks to July 27.
