A Derry woman has been appointed to the role of Managing Director at a leading firm specialising in leadership strategy. Tessa Breslin (nee McDaid) assumed the role in recent weeks and will now head up YSC’s Americas Division spanning the United States, Brazil, Canada and Mexico. YSC Consulting uses their expertise in behavioural science to help organisations across the globe connect the dots between business strategy and leadership. In turn, that helps businesses towards choosing the correct tools to maximise leadership in order to achieve their company strategies. The firm was founded in London in 1990 and works across a range of industries including technology, biotech, private equity, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, financial services, energy and media and entertainment. A former student of Thornhill College, Tessa graduated from Queen’s University with a First Class Honours in Psychology and won a scholarship to complete a Masters in Occupational Psychology. Her career began in London working in consultancy with blue chip clients on their communications before switching to the aviation industry then onto talent and management development for a facilities firm that oversaw 48,000 people. The move into talent management may have been a natural move for Tessa who spent many years in her childhood and youth in Derry as a performer, both as an Irish dancer with the Pat Henderson Academy and singer which included being a member of the renowned MacCafferty Singers. Now based in New York with her husband Declan Breslin, also from Derry and her three young children, Tessa said of her recent appointment: “During my years as a client, I always admired YSC’s thoughtful approach and impact in working with organisations. I’m thrilled to lead our teams in the Americas as we continue to deliver world-class leadership strategy programmes to our clients.” The newly appointed Managing Director is a chartered psychologist with the British Psychological Society and a member of the Health Professionals Council and American Psychological Association. Tessa’s dad Charlie McDaid had a lengthy career as a Psychiatric Nurse and speaking to the Derry News he said: “I am very, very proud and in many ways humbled as well. It’s good to see her family prospering and making use of their opportunities. And, mum Celine added: “Tessa is a very good daughter and always worked very hard and she deserves to do well.” YSC’s Chief Executive Officer Eric Pliner added: “In the past nine years, Tessa has worked as a formal and informal leader for YSC around the world and has helped build some of our strongest client relationships. Her expertise and credentials make her an inspired choice to lead our fastest growing market.” CAPTION: Tessa Breslin (nee McDaid) and her husband Declan.
