Dr. Eilish Rooney, Ulster University, Transitional Justice Unit (TGI), was the main speaker at a special graduation event hosted by Foyle Women’s Information Network (FWIN) at Holywell Trust recently. The event marked the success of local participants who achieved an ILM Level 2 Award in Leadership and Team Skills. Addressing the participants at the ceremony, Dr. Rooney shared experiences of her time at university in the 1970’s and the opportunities afforded to her. She also discussed her work in the Transitional Justice Unit at Ulster University. Five women’s groups took part in the graduation – Galliagh, Lisnagelvin, CPTT (Creggan), Strabane and Coleraine and the year-long course involved over 60 participants. Dr Rooney went on to praise all those who had taken part and said she hoped that the participants recognised the vital role that woman can play in helping communities develop a vision for positive change.
