A man who claimed his former partner 'pestered' him to contact her despite bail conditions appeared at Derry Magistrates' Court today charged with breaching his bail and new offences.
Darren Dixon (29) of Carlton Court in Derry was charged with two assaults against a female on March 28 and stealing a bankcard on the same date.
A police officer told the court heard could connect the accused to the charges and opposed bail.
The court heard that police were called to Clon Dara to reports of a fight in the street.
They spoke to the alleged injured party outside an address and she said a petty argument had 'escalated' and the defendant had pushed her causing her to bang her head.
She said she noticed her bank card was missing and went out to the street to confront Dixon and another fight had ensued that had to be broken up by neighbours.
When arrested Dixon denied the assault stating she had headbutted him and claimed he had the bank card to get money for the woman.
Police opposed bail on the grounds he would contact the alleged injured party.
Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott said Dixon accepted he should not have contacted the woman.
He said that he claimed the woman pestered him so he contacted her.
The solicitor said that there were 'two sides to the story'.
Dixon was granted bail on condition he stay out of the Skeoge area and will appear again on May 6.
