A 38 years old man has been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences and remains in custody

Man arrested and drugs seized following vehicle stop in Derry

District Support Team officers in Derry made an arrest and seized suspected drugs following the stop of a vehicle in the city yesterday evening (Wednesday), March 4.

At approximately 10:30pm, officers on patrol were alerted to the manner of driving in relation to a car on Buncrana Road. Officers stopped the car as it drove onto Racecourse Road, where they spoke with its occupants, noting a smell of suspected cannabis emanating from inside the vehicle.

Officers subsequently seized suspected Class A drugs and arrested a man, aged 38 years old, on suspicion of offences including possession of a Class A controlled drug and possession of a Class A controlled drug with intent to supply and he remains in custody at this time.

Enquiries are ongoing.

Chief Inspector Cathal Pearce said: "We want to assure you, that every day, here in Derry City & Strabane, and with colleagues from across the Police Service, we are working to tackle the illicit supply or use of drugs. They cause misery in our communities - we have seen that far too often.
