Derry Court
A woman has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court charged with persistent improper use of public communications after making false calls to the police.
Joyce Campbell (64) of Clon Dara in Derry was charged with the offences that occurred between January and December 2024, when she made 114 calls to emergency and non-emergency police numbers.
She was said to be 'highly intoxicated' when she made the calls and, when questioned by police, said she couldn't remember making them.
Defence solicitor Kevin Casey said that Campbell was 'presently maintaining sobriety' and was 'deeply embarrassed' by her actions.
He added, however, that she had pleaded guilty and that no emergency services had been dispatched as a result of her phone calls.

Deputy District Judge Philip Mateer acknowledged that Campbell's most recent offence was in June 2015 and that she was 'presently on top of her issues', giving her a conditional discharge for two years.
