Northern Trust to host landmark support event for families of children with disabilities

Families of children with disabilities and additional needs are being invited to a special information event organised by the Northern Health and Social Care Trust.

The Stronger Together event will take place on Wednesday 25 March from 9.30am – 3.30pm in The Braid Arts Centre, Ballymena. It aims to connect families with a wide range of voluntary and community organisations offering guidance and advice around health, education and family support — helping to make a positive difference in their day to day lives.

Inviting families to come along to the free event, Julie Patterson, the Northern Trust’s Assistant Director responsible for Children with a Disability services, said:

“Having listened carefully to the experiences and feedback of the families we work alongside, we understand the challenges they can face navigating services and support.  That’s why we felt it was so important to bring a wide range of trusted voluntary and community organisations together in one accessible place.

"This event is the first event of its kind for our service, and we are delighted to create an opportunity for families, parents and carers to connect, ask questions and discover the support available to them.  We hope the day will not only provide practical guidance around health, education and family wellbeing, but also offer reassurance, connection and a sense of community.”

Margaret Ann McKee, Senior Social Work Practitioner with the Northern Trust’s Early Support Service for Children with Disabilities, added: “Building strong links between the Trust and our community partners is vital, and Stronger Together provides a space for providers to connect with one another and strengthen collaboration.

"By coming together, we can ensure that families feel supported, informed and confident in accessing the services that can make a real difference.”

The event will be held on a drop in basis - come along at a time that suits you and stay for as long as you wish.

A light lunch will be provided, with refreshments available throughout the day.
