In response to a rise in dog fouling, the Neighbourhood Management Team launched a Dog Fouling Awareness Campaign billboard on Monday morning at Free Derry Corner to address the ongoing issue across the Triax areas of the city.

Launched in partnership with the Department for Communities, as well as other local stakeholders, the campaign was seen as necessary to address the ongoing issue of illegal Dog Fouling in the city.

The billboard images show the stark realities of dog fouling with slogans ‘You Wouldn’t Do It. Why Let Your Dog Do It?’ and ‘Clean It Up. Bag It, Bin It! Your Dog Can’t Do It – So You Have To!’

Speaking at Monday’s launch, Tina Doolin, Neighbourhood Management Team Development Worker said: ‘Our local community organisations and councillors have been inundated with complaints from local people from the area highlighting that the issue is becoming more severe and widespread.

‘This is not only an issue with aesthetics and smell in our streets and our housing estates but is also a public Health and Safety concern for children playing either in their streets or on greenspaces.’

Stressing that as the Spring weather moves closer, people want to enjoy outdoor pursuits, and that consideration must be given to all in the community, Ms. Doolin added: ‘Please give consideration to those who use wheelchairs and other mobility aids who are at risk, particularly as we head toward spring and people want to enjoy outside spaces again.’

The message from all in attendance at Monday’s launch was anyone walking their pets please be more considerate by bagging it, binning it and help keep all our streets clean!
