Foyle Port has announced the appointment of Ian Luney as its new Chief Executive.

Ian will take up post on March 1, following completion of a competitive process as part of the Board’s planned succession.

Ian currently serves as Chief Development Officer at Foyle Port and brings extensive senior leadership experience within the utility and energy sectors. In his current role, he has led the development of the Port’s utility platform, advancing diversification across renewable energy, digital infrastructure and broader commercial initiatives aligned to long-term regional growth.

As Chief Executive, he will lead Foyle Port through its next phase of delivery under the current strategy, strengthening the Port’s position as a regional trading and utility platform of scale.

Foyle Port is the UK’s most westerly port and serves as a key Atlantic gateway for the North West. The Port supports a broad range of sectors and thousands of jobs, and continues to develop its capabilities across marine services, renewables, cruise, land development and emerging digital and energy infrastructure.

Chair of Foyle Port, Ryan McCready said: “I am pleased to confirm Ian’s appointment as Chief Executive. The Board has full confidence in his leadership as we enter the next phase of the Port’s development.

“Our priority is disciplined execution of our strategy to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Port and the regional economy it supports. Ian understands the significance of this asset and the duties inherent in leading it.”

Foyle Port’s new Chief Executive, Ian Luney said: “I am delighted to have this opportunity to lead Foyle Port. Foyle Port is a strong and resilient organisation with significant potential.

“Having worked closely with the Executive team and stakeholders in recent years, I am focused on continuing the delivery of our strategy and building on the progress already made to strengthen the Port’s role in supporting regional economic development.”
