Police in Derry investigating reports of suspicious activity around homes have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted burglary.
It was reported that two males were trying the door handles of a car and a house in Hillview Avenue at around 3.20am today, Sunday, February 15.
Minutes later, officers stopped a man on a bike matching the description given by the householder. He was arrested and found to be in possession of a set of car keys which were not his own and two screwdrivers.
Chief Inspector Cathal Pearce said: "Our officers acted quickly and through their diligent assessment of the area made this arrest. The man who is aged 34 was arrested on suspicion of going equipped for burglary, attempted burglary and vehicle interference.
"Our efforts to locate the second male, who was wearing a balaclava at the time, are ongoing and we'd appeal to anyone in any of these areas who has noticed any suspicious activity or has CCTV or doorbell cameras, to check their footage which may have captured significant information."
Police also appeal to anyone who has experienced something similar in the last 24 to 48 hours, and has not reported it, to do so by calling 101, quoting reference 201 15/02/26.
