Police in Derry received a report of anti-social behaviour in the vicinity of Bishop Street, opposite Nailors Row, in the city last night, 5 February.

At around 8.45pm, a large number of young people were reported to be throwing stones and bottles at properties.

Police responded, attending the area, engaging with those present to de-escalate the situation.

During this time, a man was arrested. He was subsequently released for report to the Public Prosecution Service in relation to public order offences.

Sinn Féin councillor Patricia Logue condemned the attack and called on anyone with information on those responsible to bring it forward to the police.

Cllr Logue said: “I condemn this blatantly sectarian attack which saw stone-throwers attack homes in the Fountain estate.

“There can be no place for sectarianism in our society.

“The people of this city want and are entitled to an inclusive, better future for them and their children and reject this sectarian and anti-community behaviour outright.

“I am appealing to anyone with information about who carried out this attack to bring it to the police.”
