The St Columb’s Park Reconciliation Trust is kickstarting their new Our Hidden Healers: The Untold Heritage Beyond the Walls heritage project with their first public event, ‘The Call of Duty’ (and not a wain washed).
This will be a story harvesting event, inviting retired nurses to discuss the impossible balancing act of holding down a demanding nursing career and the responsibility of being a mother and homemaker in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.
This event forms part of a £177,440 project funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund, which explores the hidden history of healing connected to St Columb’s Park House and its grounds.
The project seeks to uncover the personal histories of St. Columb’s Hospital, stories that have largely gone unrecorded and overlooked.
The hospital and its nurses played a vital role in the life of the city, shaping the experiences of many who worked or were treated there. Recording and sharing these memories is essential to preserving this rich heritage.
If you, or a family member, were a nurse at St. Columb’s Hospital during the 1960s, 1970s or 1080s, we would love to hear your stories and warmly welcome you to join us on Monday, February 9 at 11am in St Columb’s Park House.
