‘Absolutely delighted’ was how St. Joseph’s Boys Principal, Ciara Deane described the record numbers that attended the school’s Annual Open Night on Thursday.
Parents, grandparents and prospective pupils from right across the city and district were represented for the two-hour opportunity to see what the Creggan school has to offer those starting secondary level in September.
Citing the school motto ‘Achievement For All’ and welcoming families to the Open Night, Mrs. Deane said ‘I am absolutely delighted to see so many in attendance this evening. The opportunities the school can offer across a wealth of subjects is going from strength-to-strength and we at St. Joseph’s, will work tirelessly towards providing a curriculum for all.’
The evening began with the Principal’s Address in the packed assembly hall where she was accompanied by speeches from Mr. Emmett McGinty, teacher, Declan Barr, Head Boy and an ‘honest assessment’ from Year 8 student Darragh Deanes.
Parents and pupils were then accompanied around the various departments within the school to meet teaching staff and students and get a feel for what St. Joseph’s has to offer.
Mrs. Deane added: ‘Last year we did a great deal of work revitalising and embedding our school’s new vision and values and on raising standards in learning right across the board.
‘We, at St. Joseph’s are truly committed to all our pupils and ensuring they have the tools to develop responsibility, respect, resilience and health relationships so they can succeed and have a strong and lasting future.’
Reflecting on the evening, the school’s Principal concluded that she was incredibly proud of the entire St. Joseph’s School Family and excited about the future.
‘I’m hopeful as we continue to grow and improve, St. Joseph’s will become the first choice for more and more boys across the many primary schools in our community.’
Anyone who missed Thursday’s Open Night and is interested in finding out more about what St. Joseph’s offers is asked to contact the school on 02871 262333.
