Suspended sentence for man who caused 'significant damage' to neighbour's door

A man who caused 'significant damage' to a neighbour's door has received a suspended sentence at Derry Magistrates' Court. 

Damien O'Neill (19) of Rossnagalliagh in Derry admitted one charge of criminal damage to the door that caused £921 worth of damage on July 20 last year.

The court heard that police attended and spoke to the reporting party who said O'Neill had approached his door and kicked it so hard tge letterbox fell off.

Defence counsel Sinead Rogan said that the defendant had gathered some £500 towards compensation. 

She said that the defendant has no record but she accepted the court had 'limited options'.

O'Neill was given a six month prison sentence suspended for 12 months and ordered to pay £921 in compensation.
