Derry Magistrates' Court
A man has been sentenced at Derry Magistrates' Court for persistent improper use of public communications.
Michael James McCandless Devlin (34) of Clon Elagh in Derry was charged with, on August 16, sending threatening messages and voice notes to a neighbour who is alleged to have assaulted him.
When police arrived, Devlin was said to be intoxicated and claimed that he never had any intention of carrying out the threats.
Following his alleged assault, the injured party was granted bail to an address beside Devlin which is what is said to have led to the incident.
Defence Barrister Sinead Rogan said that the injured party was charged with an allegedly 'very serious attack' against Devlin.
She also said that Devlin 'generally doesn't bother anybody' and accepts that his behavior was 'inappropriate' but he was assessed as a low likelihood of reoffending.
District Judge Oonagh Mullan imposed a two year restraining order and sentenced Devlin to 12 months probation.
