Derry judge hits out at court delays

Derry Magistrate's Court

A man has appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court charged with disorderly behavior following an incident in Foyle Street.

Conor Deane (34) of no fixed abode was charged after police were called on November 4 last year to reports of a man sleeping on a bench.

When police attempted to wake him it became clear that he was heavily intoxicated and began acting in an agitated manner.

Police repeatedly asked him to moderate his behavior but he refused and he was subsequently arrested for disorderly behavior.

Defence solicitor Paddy Clay said that Deane 'accepts that his conduct was unacceptable' and said that he had shown 'genuine remorse'.

He also said that Deane has been sober since the incident.

He was sentenced to three months in custody, suspended for twelve months and ordered to pay a fine of £100.
